Smoked Haddock with Potato & Chive Mash Recipe

  1. Place the potatoes in a pan with just enough boiling water.  Cover and bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until tender, then drain.
  2. Meanwhile, place the haddock or cod in a deep frying pan with the milk and low-fat spread. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Drain and flake the fish, retaining the milk to mash with the potatoes.
  3. Mix together the mayonnaise and 3 tablespoons of the chives.
  4. Mash potatoes with 200ml of the poaching milk
  5. Serve the mash in a large heap, topped with haddock or loin  and the remaining chives.


4 medium smooth potatoes (such as Desirée), peeled and cut into small chunks

450g smoked haddock fillet or cod loin, cut into four pieces

300ml semi-skimmed milk

1 teaspoon low-fat spread

4 tablespoons freshly chopped chives

3 tablespoons low-fat or light mayonnaise
